Erykah Badu: Papoose Had No Permission To Use Her Vocals On “Cure”

Erykah Badu and Papoose need to have a closed-door meeting about his new single, “Cure.” Badu’s voice is featured on the track, released by the Brooklyn rapper just under a week ago, which appears to have been done without her permission. Badu went on Twitter revealing that her vocals are a decade old. “This papoose song Cure. I sang those vocals 10 years ago. That’s 2 babies ago.Sheeeit. So mcs just throwing out old material- no paperwork..” The more than five-minute song is off the rapper’s newly released debut, Nacirema Dream. On  the track, Papoose raps about cancer and AIDS, rhyming from the perspective of the disease and virus. But the subject matter failed to impress Badu who followed up her first tweet by writing, “I [think] they already have the cure by now.” Badu  has no qualms about calling out artists for using her without asking first. Last June, the Flaming Lips felt her wrath for releasing the NSFW video for “Unapproved,” which features the Texas native nude. Badu said she never gave approval for the visual to be released and felt that it didn’t show her in the proper light. Papoose has not publicly responded to Badu’s claims, but he might want to square all the legal details away before this situation escalates.
